Getting your puppy started out on the right track is critically important. What they learn in the first weeks and months of their life lays the foundation for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately many owners do not have the time to teach their puppies what they need to learn or simply have a puppy they discover they are not equipped to handle.
Our puppy program focuses on giving puppies the skills they need for the rest of their life so they can grow into confident, well-behaved, and well-adjusted adults. People often think obedience commands like "sit" and "down" are fundamental training, however that is not the case. Puppies need to learn how to pay attention to humans, learn to look for information from humans, learn to interact appropriately with the world, and discover that learning is fun! And yes, in the process they do learn how to sit and down too! Here are some concepts we work on with most puppies:
how to offer behaviors
good grooming manners (nail cutting, brushing)
Here is a first week video of our foster, Allie, participating in her puppy boot camp. Allie was an owner surrender for being "too crazy" and biting. (Allie is wearing a gentle leader head collar in the video). She loves to learn and came a long way in just one week!
